Christmas Party Decorations 2026: Garlands, Paper Chains, Honeycombs and Velvet Bows

There is a type of Christmas decoration that goes up on the first of December and comes down on Twelfth Night, and then there is the type you put up for the party. This post is about the second kind - the paper garlands, honeycombs and paper chains that make a room feel like Christmas in ten minutes, and that fold flat into a box for next year. Almost all of it is new from Meri Meri this autumn. 🎄

We have split it into what goes over the table, what goes on the mantelpiece, what the children can do, and the candles, because that is the order we do it in.

Christmas garlands for over the table 🎀

One big garland over the table and the room is done. The Meri Meri x Liberty Festive Bow Party Garland is a string of Liberty-print bows and is the prettiest thing in the whole range. The Merry Christmas Velvet Pennant Garland spells it out in velvet flags, and the Christmas Pompom Flag Party Garland is the colourful one for a house with children.

If you want the designer version, the Meri Meri x John Derian Christmas Garland Set is a set of vintage-style Christmas illustrations from the New York decoupage artist, and the Meri Meri x Liberty Reindeer Party Garland is a row of Liberty-print reindeer. Both are the kind of thing you keep.

Christmas honeycombs and paper chains 🍬

Paper chains are back, and the grown-up versions are lovely. The Meri Meri x Liberty Christmas Paper Chains Set, the Meri Meri x Molly Mahon Christmas Paper Chains and the Glitter Christmas Paper Chains Set all come as pre-cut strips you loop together - twenty minutes with a cup of tea and you have ten metres of chain.

For the mantelpiece and the windowsills, the honeycombs. The Meri Meri x Liberty Paper Honeycomb Christmas Trees x 3 are three Liberty-print trees in different sizes, the Meri Meri x Molly Mahon Large Paper Honeycomb Christmas Decorations x 3 are big block-print baubles, and the Candy Cane Stripe Honeycomb Party Garland is a string of striped honeycomb balls for across the window.

Velvet bows for the tree and the table 🎀

The Hootyballoo velvet bow range is the budget way into this year's bow trend. The Pink & Red Velvet Bow Clip Decorations x 6 clip onto the tree, a garland or the back of a chair, the Red Velvet Bow Tie Decorations x 6 tie onto anything, and the Cream Velvet Bow Clip Decorations x 6 are the ones for a white and gold tree. All under £9 for six.

Christmas balloons for the children's party 🎈

If it is a party rather than a dinner, one giant foil balloon does the job of a backdrop. The Giant Standing Christmas Tree Foil Balloon is six feet tall and stands up on its own, no helium, and the Standing Snowman Foil Balloon (47 inch) is the same idea at child height. Both are Party Deco and both are under £25.

Christmas candles 🕯️

New this year and already the thing we are asked about most. The Assorted Stripe Twist Christmas Candles x 4 are four twisted tapers in red, green, gold and cream, the Red Stripy Bow Christmas Table Candles x 2 have a stripy bow moulded into the candle, and the Gold Bow Taper Christmas Candles x 2 are the plain gold version for a quieter table. Two or three down the middle of the table and you do not need a centrepiece.

The one-box option 📦

If you want all of this without choosing, the Festive Decoration Kit Christmas Garland Set is a whole room in a box - garlands, honeycombs and paper chains that all match - and the Christmas Party Garland Set is the smaller version for one wall.
