How to Style a Teddy Bear First Birthday Party

A first birthday is the party the birthday girl or boy will never remember and the one most of us put the most heart into. It is also, if you let it, the easiest party you will ever throw. One theme, one colour palette, three things on the table. 🧸

The teddy bear first birthday has been our most-loved first birthday theme this year, and for good reason. It works for a boy or a girl, it photographs beautifully against almost any wall and it does not date, so the photos will still look lovely in twenty years. Here is how to style it.

Choose your teddy bear first birthday colour palette 🎨

Beige, cream, soft brown and a touch of peach. That is it. The Party Deco Teddy Bear range is built on exactly these tones, so everything coordinates without you having to think about it. If you want a hint of colour, add blush pink or sage green in the balloons, but keep it to one accent. The beauty of this palette is that it makes a normal living room look styled.

Create the teddy bear first birthday table 🍽️

Three things and one look. Start with a plain cream or white tablecloth, then layer:

Hang the Scallop Tissue Garland in Peaches and Cream along the front edge of the table or on the wall behind it and the table is finished.

Teddy bear first birthday balloons 🎈

One big number balloon is all a first birthday needs. The 1st Birthday Foil Balloon Number 1 with Bear is the classic, and it stands up on its own on the table with no helium needed. Add a bunch of the Pastel Pink ONE 1st Birthday Balloons x 6 for a girl, or plain cream and sand latex balloons for a neutral look.

For a bigger balloon moment, the Adventure Bear Shaped Foil Balloon from My Mind's Eye is the premium step-up and makes a lovely keepsake once the party is over.

Milestone bunting and the teddy bear first birthday photo wall 📷

This is the piece grandparents stop and look at. The 1st Birthday Milestone Photo Bunting has twelve little pegs, one for a photo from each month of the first year. Print twelve photos at 6x4 before the party, peg them on in order and hang it at grown-up eye level. It is the thing everyone photographs, and it goes straight into the memory box afterwards.

Behind it, the First Birthday Teddy Bear Party Bunting and a pair of Bear Paper Fan Rosettes make a simple photo wall in about five minutes.

Cake smash ideas for a teddy bear first birthday 🎂

The cake smash is the moment, so give it a corner of its own. The First Birthday Teddy Bear Chair Banner and Crown turns the high chair into the photo spot, which is where everyone will point their phone anyway. Put the tissue garland on the wall behind, a plain cake with the teddy bear candle on the tray, and a towel within reach.

A tip from experience: do the cake smash about halfway through the party, before nap time hits, and have a second small cake for the grown-ups so nobody has to eat the smashed one.

Teddy bear first birthday party bags 🧸

At a first birthday most of the guests are grown-ups, so party bags can be simple. A little kraft bag with a biscuit in a bear shape and a handwritten thank you is plenty. If there are older siblings coming, add a Bear Birthday Candle or a small bear ornament from our Teddy Bear Party collection.

Capture the teddy bear first birthday memories 📸

Take the styled photos before guests arrive - the table, the milestone bunting, the chair - because the room will not look like that again once the party starts. Tag us on Instagram at @littlebigpartyco - we love seeing your first birthdays! 🎉
